UD students use imaginative art form to bring us all together.
Nothing embodies the saying “a picture is worth 1,000 words” more than the new mosaic of the Dayton city skyline presented at the third annual Imagining Community Symposium held at The Hub in April. The mosaic, facilitated by students in Molly Keane-Sexton’s Business and Professional Writing class, allowed community members to engage with UD students in collaborative art. The mosaic was completed over the course of two days.
Keane-Sexton has worked closely with the Mosaic Institute, a local nonprofit providing the community with large-scale collaborative art projects. With funding from a Fitz Center Fellowship, Keane-Sexton ’95 frequently involves her students in the institute’s projects as a way to closer connect them to the greater Dayton community.
“We need the arts to be human and collaborative. Art can bring so much wealth through community engagement,” she said.
