Alyssa Miller is a senior finance major and a student-athlete on UD's volleyball team. Miller was named an All-Atlantic 10 first team member and A-10 player of the week last October.
She committed to UD at the age of 16 in 2019. Miller said the highly competitive and successful volleyball team the biggest factor in coming to UD, in addition to the welcoming community she found here. As she nears graduation, she recalls one of her favorite memories: Entering the court at the Frericks Center through the pre-game tunnel as the team's hype video plays.
Off the volleyball court, Miller said she cherishes her summers spent on campus where the team has the opportunity to bond for a few weeks before starting intense practices.
Though she only has about three months left of classes, Miller is enjoying the time she has left trying different activities like Clay Club and her ceramics class. She's currently working on a new pot that she is eager to finish.
Since the end of the volleyball season, where UD made it to the Sweet Sixteen in the NCAA Tournament, ultimately falling to the University of Nebraska, Miller said she hasn't touched a volleyball. But, she is rediscovering her love for the game and looking forward to the future. Miller hopes to travel overseas to possibly play professionally in France.
When asked what she would say to her freshman self, coming to UD for the first time, she said,
"Talk to as many people as possible; make connections. It's important to learn from diverse experiences and not take your time here for granted."
