Reader survey: You said it

Reader survey: You said it

UD Magazine asked the questions, readers let us know the answers.

Though the University of Dayton Magazine staff is small — all seven of us, including a graduate assistant and a part-timer who refuses to retire (ahem, Thomas M. Columbus) — we come to our humble cubicle jungle in the basement of Albert Emanuel Hall each day to make this publication the best it can be. Our alumni love this place and what it means to them, and we want to do our best to show it off four times per year.

In our most recent annual survey, we asked readers how they view the magazine and what they’d like to see in its pages.

One thing is for certain — print is not dead! More than 75% of our readers prefer to read UD Magazine on good ol’ ink and paper, while a modest 10% of readers prefer to see it online.

The magazine continues to be well-read and serves as a primary source of University news and information for 75% of readers; coming in second is UD’s e-newsletter.

The two most-read stories in the digital edition the last year were “Thank You, Frank,” an essay by Westina Matthews Shatteen ’70 on becoming UD’s first Black Homecoming queen, and “The Best Defense,” a profile on Brig. Gen. John Rose ’68.

In addition to producing the magazine, we also publish content found only on the UD Magazine website. The most-read online-only story was “Jesus’ Earthly Dad” about St. Joseph by Gloria Falcão Dodd, research professor in religious studies written for Father’s Day.

Our staff invites readers to stay connected to UD through our magazine website at udayton.edu/magazine. We also welcome your story ideas, class notes and letters anytime at magazine@udayton.edu.
