The bonds formed through shared victories, defeats and countless hours of training are deeply cherished by Brendan Corboy ’09. It’s been almost 15 years since he last played on UD’s Ultimate Frisbee club team, but he remembers it vividly.

Now, he’s helping to keep Flyers playing it on campus.

After graduating, Corboy started the Ultimate Frisbee Alumni Scholarship to assist an upperclass member of either the men’s or women’s club team who has helped grow the sport and positively influenced his or her teammates.

“[The] scholarship fund is to raise awareness for the sport and continue the legacy of what we built,” he said.

He also got his parents, John and Kathryn Corboy, involved. The couple has given to the fund since its inception.

“[As] freshmen, we didn’t know anything about strategy and how to build a team or how to raise money, but over our four years as undergrads, we learned,” Corboy said.

“One of our goals was passing on this information to the next generation so that they’re not starting from zero.”

While his days traveling to tournaments, practices, track workouts and team house parties are over, Corboy said he’ll never forget the pride he felt evolving with his teammates and making lifelong friendships. And now, each year when he returns to campus for their annual alumni scrimmage, he’s delighted to see a new group of Flyers continuing the club traditions.
