Judge Peter B. Silvain, Jr. was appointed as a United States Magistrate Judge for the Southern District of Ohio on May 10, 2021. Prior to this he served as a Federal Administrative Law Judge for the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Administrative Law Judges from 2011-2021 and for the Social Security Administration from 2009-2011. He received his B.A. with honors from Mount Saint Mary’s College, completed one year of graduate studies in Public Health at Johns Hopkins University and received his J.D. from the Washington and Lee University School of Law.

Judge Silvain worked in private practice for several years as a litigator with Semmes, Bowen & Semmes in Baltimore, Maryland and Samek, McMillan & Metro in Rockville, Maryland. He also served as an Assistant County Attorney for Montgomery County, Maryland. In 2001, he joined the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of the Solicitor, where he represented the Department in labor and employment litigation before administrative appellate boards, the U.S. District Courts and the U.S. Courts of Appeal. For over a decade, Judge Silvain was also an adjunct professor of Health Care Law and Administration at the Columbia Union College.
