Profile

Brandon C. McClain was born and raised in North Carolina, but considers Dayton, Ohio to be his home. He graduated cum laude from the University of North Carolina at Pembroke, North Carolina with a Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice; the University of Cincinnati (Ohio) with a Master of Science in Criminal Justice; and the University of Dayton School of Law (Ohio) with a Juris Doctor. Mr. McClain is also a veteran, having served as a non-commissioned officer in the Army National Guard, achieving the rank of Sergeant prior to his honorable discharge.

Mr. McClain was admitted to the practice of law in the state of Ohio (2011), as well as the United States District Court for the Southern District of Ohio (2011) and the United States Tax Court (2012). His professional affiliations include him being a member of the Ohio Recorder’s Association, the Ohio Bar Association, the Ohio Magistrate’s Association, and Chairman of the Dayton Bar Association’s Diversity Issues Subcommittee. His related awards and professional distinctions include but are not limited to the Leadership Development Class, Dayton Bar Association (2014); Man of Influence, Dayton Weekly News (2016); Rising Star, the Dayton Bar Briefs (2017); the Joseph Cinque Award, the Black Law Students Association of the University of Dayton School of Law (2018); Top Ten African-American Male Honoree, Parity, Inc. (2019); the Public Service Award, presented by the Tribute to African-Americans Committee, Inc; Class of 2019 DBA Fellow, Dayton Bar Association Foundation; and the Forty under 40 Award, Dayton Business Journal (2019).

Mr. McClain’s legal experience varies from being an Acting Judge and Magistrate in the Dayton Municipal Court, to being an Assistant Public Defender in the Montgomery County Public Defender’s Office. He was also a Principal Attorney in McClain Anastasi LLC and an intern at the Cincinnati Prosecutor’s Office. Recently, Mr. McClain was elected the Montgomery County Recorder, after being appointed in March 2018 following the passing of Willis Blackshear, Sr. Since assuming office, Recorder McClain has introduced and implemented two programs of note: the Veterans Identification Card Program, which connects our communities’ veterans to benefits they earned; and the Fraud Alert Notification System, which combats property fraud. Additionally, he serves on the Dayton Public Schools Operational Advisory Committee, the Board of Trustees for the Dayton Bar Association, the Mary Scott Nursing Center Board of Directors, the Sinclair Community College Paralegal Program Advisory Committee, and is a mentor to students throughout Montgomery County. Recorder McClain is also a member of St. Luke Missionary Baptist Church.
