Joseph Duggan is Assistant Professor of Economics and holds the esteemed Paul H. Benson Professorship in Sustainability at the University of Dayton. Dr. Duggan’s academic career is distinguished by a robust interdisciplinary foundation and a commitment to advancing sustainability within economic systems. He earned dual Bachelor’s degrees in Economics and Mathematics from Boston College, followed by Master’s degrees in Economics & Operations Research, and a Ph.D. in Economics, all from The Ohio State University. This educational background enables Dr. Duggan to integrate quantitative analysis and rigorous economic theory into his research and teaching.

Dr. Duggan’s research interests encompass energy economics, market design and regulation, industrial organization, game theory, and operations research. His work focuses on how markets can be effectively structured to promote sustainable energy practices, efficient regulation, and optimal organizational outcomes, often employing advanced modeling techniques and theoretical frameworks.
