Profile

Dr. Youssef Raffoul holds the rank of Professor and is the Graduate Program Director in the Department of Mathematics at the University of Dayton. He joined the faculty in 1999. Dr. Raffoul obtained a B.S. and M.S. from the University of Dayton in mathematics in 1987 and 1989, respectively. After receiving his Ph.D. in mathematics from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale in 1996, he joined the faculty of the Mathematics Department at Tougaloo College in Mississippi, where he became the department chair for two years until he came to Dayton.

Professor Raffoul has published extensively in the area of functional differential and difference equations and has won several awards for his research, most recently, the Career in Science Award from the Lebanese Government.  In 2018, Prof. Raffoul published Qualitative Theory of Volterra Difference Equationsa comprehensive study of the theory and applications of Volterra difference equations.

Awards

  • Recipient of Order of Merit, Silver Medal with Distinction (Second Class out of Four Classes), Presented by the President of Lebanon, General Michel Aoun, April 16, 2022. The Order was created by Decision No. 1080 dated Jan. 16, 1922 by the French government of the Mandated Territory and amended by the Decree of Dec. 13 1927.
  • Given the Title “Allama”, العلَّامة by the Lebanese Government, April 16, 2022.
  • Recipient of Life Time Achievement Award, Archbishop of Lebanon, December 2021.
  • Recipient of the Career in Science Excellence Award, Awarded by the Lebanese Government April 26, 2018.
  • Winner of the 2009 University of Dayton Alumni Award in Scholarship.
  • Winner of the University of Dayton College of Arts and Sciences’ Award for Outstanding Scholarship, 2005.
