Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate with university community partners to assess and fulfill technical requirements, including lighting, video, sound, staging and special production elements for concerts, dance performances, theatrical productions, ceremonies, meetings, speeches, classroom sessions and presentations for the Roger Glass Center for the Arts, Boll Theatre and Sears Recital Hall.
  • Deliver exceptional customer service and technical support, overseeing the full execution of events, including setup and teardown within the Roger Glass Center for the Arts, Boll Theatre and Sears Recital Hall.
  • Operate, maintain and protect all theatrical technical systems and equipment housed in the Roger Glass Center for the Arts, Boll Theatre and Sears Recital Hall.
  • Serve as the primary liaison with Facilities Management to coordinate maintenance and capital improvement projects across all three venues.
  • Supervise and support stagehands assigned to the Roger Glass Center for the Arts, Boll Theatre and Sears Recital Hall.
  • Adjunct Lecturer for the Department of Music.

Profile

Matthew J. Evans is an internationally recognized artist, educator and technical director whose creative vision has transformed stages worldwide. From Kazakhstan to Bermuda, China and communities across the United States, his scenic, lighting and audio designs bring theatrical storytelling to life.

Matthew currently serves as Technical Director for the Roger Glass Center for the Arts, Boll Theatre and Sears Recital Hall. His expertise spans theater, opera, dance and live events, where his environments elevate the audience experience.

From 2011 to 2023, he was a faculty lecturer and Technical Director for the Theatre, Dance and Performance Technology Program (TDP). During his time with TDP, he mentored students in performance technology, created capstone courses and contributed to the curriculum, program meetings, committees, and recruitment activities. 

Beyond the university, Matthew is Director of Production and Lighting Director for the Dayton Contemporary Dance Company (DCDC), one of the country’s most acclaimed modern dance companies. In this role, he contributes to DCDC’s powerful performances and community-focused mission, which is rooted in the African American experience.

He is also an active member of IATSE Local 66 and has collaborated with regional theaters nationwide, including LaComedia Dinner Theatre, Opera Saratoga, The Barter Theatre, University of Wisconsin–Platteville, Circa 21, Enchanted Hills Playhouse, Sorg Opera, Ghostlight Theatre Inc., and Horsefeathers and Applesauce Dinner Theatre.

Originally from Davenport, Iowa, Matthew holds a Bachelor of Arts in Theatre from Teikyo Marycrest University. He now lives in Lebanon, Ohio, and finds his greatest joy in being Camden’s dad.
