MSG Eric Teufel joined the U.S. Army as a Joint Fire Support Specialist in 2007. After completion of advanced individual training, he served in the 2nd Battalion 12th Cavalry regiment as a forward observer and deployed to Iraq. Upon completing his first combat deployment, he was assigned to 4th Brigade 3rd Infantry Division where he served as a forward observer, team chief and Fires NCOIC. He deployed twice more to Iraq and Afghanistan during his time with 3rd ID. Upon returning from his third combat deployment, he was selected to serve as a Senior Drill Sergeant at Fort Sill, Oklahoma. Completing his tour of duty as a drill sergeant, he was assigned to the 10th Mountain Division. There, he deployed to Afghanistan as a Senior Operations Sergeant and First Sergeant. Returning from his fourth combat deployment, he continued to serve as a First Sergeant for a M119 howitzer battery for 28 months before being assigned to Cadet Command.
Currently, he is serving as the Senior Military Science Instructor for the University of Dayton. He has been married to his wife Keri for 15 years and they have their son, Eric Jr., who is 10 years old.
MSG Teufel’s awards and decorations include: Bronze Star Medal; Meritorious Service Medal; Army Commendation Medal (7th); Army Achievement Medal (5th); Army Good Conduct Medal (6th); National Defense Service Medal; Afghanistan Campaign (with 2 stars); Iraq Campaign Medal (with 3 stars); Noncommissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon (4);, Overseas Service Ribbon (4); and the NATO Ribbon (w/1 star). He is also the recipient of the Combat Action Badge and Drill Sergeant Badge.
