Profile

Mr. Gigandet joined the Army on March 12, 1984. He completed Basic Training and Advanced Individual Training at Fort McClellan, Ala., in August 1984, where he completed the Chemical Operations Course. Throughout his Army career Mr. Gigandet held positions as a Company NBC NCO for Alpha Company, 2-3 ACR, Fort Bliss, Texas, and Alpha Company, 5-20 IN, Korea. He served as the Squadron NBC NCO for 3-17 CAV in Fort Drum, N.Y., and Battalion NBC NCO for 54th Signal Battalion in Dhahran, Saudi Arabia. While stationed at Fort Knox, Ky., he was the Brigade NBC NCO for the 1st Armored Training Brigade. Mr. Gigandet was also assigned to the 92nd Chemical Company in Geibelstadt, Germany, where he served as Squad Leader for a Decon Platoon, Smoke Platoon and later served as the Personnel Administration NCO for the Company. Mr. Gigandet also attended the Army Recruiting Course in Fort Benjamin Harrison, Ind., then was assigned as a Field Recruiter in Bay Shore, Long Island, NY.. Mr. Gigandet also was assigned as a Decon Platoon Sergeant and Operations Sergeant for the 69th Chemical Company in Hanau, Germany, where he was also deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom I.

Mr. Gigandet retired Dec. 1, 2005 with 20-plus years of service. While on active duty he earned the Bronze Star Medal, three Meritorious Service Medals, three Army Commendation Medals and four Army Achievement Medals. He earned a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in Computer Information Systems from Eastern Kentucky University. Mr. Gigandet has held human resources positions at Louisiana State University and Southern University in Baton Rouge, La., and the University of Toledo before arriving at the Fighting Flyer Battalion.
