The biennial Social Practice of Human Rights (SPHR) conference provides a unique space for scholars and practitioners to engage in collaboration, dialogue and critical analysis of human rights advocacy and practice, locally and globally.

SPHR26: Creative Resistance — Artivism, Technology and the Right to Dissent will be held April 9-11, 2026.

Saint Oscar Romero

The Romero Human Rights Award commemorates the ministry and martyrdom of the slain Salvadoran Archbishop and honors an individual or organization whose work has contributed significantly to the alleviation of human suffering and injustice.

But we often don’t consider what this means specifically for fifty percent of the world, that is, women. Reflecting on Ambassador Bonnie Jenkins' visit, this blog explores these gendered impacts and why the Women, Peace & Security (WPS) agenda must evolve to meet today’s threats. And I consider how this shifting political and security landscape connects to my work at the Human Rights Center.
