Technology Support and Resources

IT Service Center

From move-in day to graduation (and every deadline in between), UD’s IT Service Center is your go-to for your tech support needs.

Whether you need help getting online, installing software, or solving a laptop issue, our experts are just a click, call, or walk-in away.

Wherever you are in your UD journey, we’ve got the tools and the team to help.

Campus Printing

Whether you're printing lecture notes, event flyers, or meeting materials, FlyerPrint makes it easy to print from almost anywhere on campus. With high-quality printers in key locations and a quick setup for both Windows and Mac, you’ll spend less time troubleshooting and more time getting things done.

Bringing a personal printer? Personal printers in student housing must connect via Bluetooth or USB, as wireless network printing isn’t supported in those spaces.

Software

At UD, access to essential academic tools is part of the package. Students can download Microsoft Office and a variety of course-specific programs at no additional cost.

Supporting Teaching, Learning and Scholarship

Supporting Innovation

At the University of Dayton, innovation is woven into everything we do. From grant-writing support and professional development opportunities to state-of-the-art, AV-equipped collaboration spaces and globally ready IT services, we provide faculty and researchers with the tools they need to advance their work.

Heading overseas? UDit keeps you securely connected no matter where your work takes you.  With the growth of cross-campus partnerships, such as the Center for Cybersecurity and Data Intelligence, we’re fostering bold ideas at the intersection of technology, research, and real-world impact. At UD, your next breakthrough doesn’t have to wait; it has a support system.

Data Infrastructure

At the University of Dayton, our data infrastructure is built to power discovery. From classrooms to research labs, UD’s data infrastructure supports learning and connection across campus. With UDsciNet’s high-speed research network and full Internet2 membership, researchers gain fast, reliable access to massive data transfers and global academic resources. Whether you're presenting worldwide, collaborating across disciplines, or analyzing complex datasets, we’ve got the tools to support it all.

With supercomputer access through the Ohio Supercomputer Center and secure hosting in our Tier 3 Data Center, UD’s infrastructure is built for high-performance research.

Add in enterprise-level video conferencing,  robust data storage, and hands-on support from UDit, and you’re ready for what’s next.

E-Learning

At UD, E-learning is supported by thoughtful design, powerful tools, and intentional professional development.

Faculty can take part in the E-Learning Fellows Program, a year-long opportunity to explore best practices for building dynamic online and hybrid courses.

Tools like Canvas, our custom learning management system, bring together assignments, quizzes, discussions, and grading into a single platform. We also offer integrated tools, including Turnitin for academic integrity, Blackboard Collaborate for live sessions, Snagit for screen capture, and iClicker for instant feedback.

For those exploring flipped classrooms or new instructional models, expert guidance is available every step of the way.

High-Performance Network

High-performance Wi-Fi ensures that everyone at UD has fast, reliable access, enabling real-time engagement with tools like Canvas and our online teaching evaluation system, SET.

As a full Internet2 member, UD offers ultrafast access to a global research and education network, supporting rich digital learning experiences in and beyond the classroom. Faculty, students and guests can easily connect through audio, web and video conferencing tools.

We also provide secure guest network credentials for academic conferences and campus events. Whether you're leading a lecture, hosting a global speaker, or attending a collaborative workshop, UD’s technology keeps you connected without limits.

Learning Space Collaborations

Through partnerships like the Center for Cybersecurity & Data Intelligence, UDit works alongside the College of Arts and Sciences, the School of Business and Administration and the School of Engineering to create interdisciplinary opportunities for hands-on learning and innovation.

Our AV team designs, builds and supports technology-rich classrooms that adapt to evolving teaching styles.

For classes interested in seeing IT in action, UDit offers guided briefings and behind-the-scenes tours of our enterprise systems, including cybersecurity and disaster recovery, data infrastructure and our state-of-the-art Tier 3 Data Center.

These experiences connect students with the tech that powers the university and the skills that power their future.

UDsciNet

With support from the National Science Foundation, UD has built a high-speed research network, UDsciNet, empowering global collaboration and big-data innovation.

Designed to handle the massive data transfers required by researchers in STEM and beyond, UDsciNet provides a dedicated express lane for scholarly work.

Specialized workstations, located in Roesch Library, the Science Center, and the Kettering Lab, serve as direct access points to Internet2 and OARnet, connecting researchers to national and international research communities. Some of these stations are purpose-built for scientific experimentation, providing tailored tools to support advanced analysis and real-time discovery.

IT Sustainability

Overview

With technology at the core of how we teach, learn and connect, we’re committed to making our IT practices as environmentally responsible as they are innovative.

The IT Sustainability Committee, a passionate team of faculty, students and IT professionals, drives campus-wide efforts to reduce our tech footprint and champion greener solutions.

From energy-efficient infrastructure to thoughtful policies, UD is taking meaningful steps to ensure our digital future is also a sustainable one.

Our Approach

At UD, sustainability is built into our tech strategy from the ground up. We make every byte count by combining responsible purchasing with innovative resource management.

Our technology purchases prioritize Energy Star and EPEAT-certified devices, energy-efficient, durable and environmentally conscious, from production to disposal.

We extend the life of our equipment through repurposing and donation and ensure responsible recycling when devices reach their end-of-life.

Our shift to paperless processes and server virtualization has drastically reduced energy use and emissions, currently supporting nearly 400 virtual servers on fewer than 20 physical machines.

It doesn’t stop there. Students, faculty and staff can join the effort by recycling ink cartridges, batteries and mobile devices at the IT Service Center. Together, we’re building a smarter, greener campus, one decision at a time.

IT Energy Tips

Everyone at UD can contribute to a more sustainable campus, starting with the way we use technology.

Simple everyday choices can add up to meaningful energy savings.

  • Use sleep or hibernate settings on your computer to conserve power when you step away.
  • Turn off monitors at the end of the day.
  • Print double-sided to cut down on paper and ink waste.
  • And don’t forget to unplug chargers and adapters when they’re not in use, especially once your device is fully charged.

These quick actions take just seconds but help create a greener UD for everyone.
