What is New Student Orientation?

We’re excited to welcome you to New Student Orientation at the University of Dayton! Orientation is required for all incoming students and is a great opportunity to learn about the support and resources available at UD and meet classmates, faculty and staff. Sessions will also be available for guests.

Have questions? Contact Student Transitions and Family Programs at stfp@udayton.edu or 937-229-2229.

What to Expect on Orientation Day

Be prepared for a busy day with lots of information and engagement with our campus community and other Flyer families.

Orientation Schedule

Spring orientation programming will take place from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday, Jan. 8, 2027. Here's what to expect:

  • Check-in
  • Welcome
  • Academic meetings
  • Group activities led by OWLs (Orientation and Welcome Leaders)
  • Lunch
  • Experiential learning overview
  • Resource fair
  • Flight Crew chats

A detailed schedule will be available prior to orientation.

Directions to Campus

  • Address: Our campus is located at 300 College Park Ave., Dayton, Ohio. Once you arrive on campus, proceed to C Lot, where you’ll park for the day.
  • Please plan for additional travel time, as various events are taking place on and around campus, in addition to ongoing construction on Interstate 75, which may result in delays.
  • Parking in Lot C: From the intersection of Brown Street and East Stewart Street, head south on Brown Street to Irving Avenue. Turn left onto Irving Avenue. Turn left at Evanston Avenue and follow orientation signage to C Lot, which will be on the left just past the RecPlex and across from Marianist Hall. Stop at the Visitor and Parking Information Center at the entrance to C Lot to receive your parking pass.

Lodging

The Marriott at the University of Dayton, located directly across from campus at 1414 S. Patterson Blvd., is offering a discounted rate for orientation guests. Be sure to use the link provided on the confirmation page on Porches or your confirmation email to get the discounted rate. We recommend booking your hotel as early as possible; room blocks are not reserved and reservations are available on a first-come, first-served basis.

What to Bring

  • Refillable water bottle: In an effort to be sustainable, we encourage students and guests to bring a refillable water bottle so they can utilize refill stations around campus.
  • Comfortable shoes: During orientation, you'll travel to several buildings and have the option to tour campus at the end of the day. While our campus is compact and very walkable, we encourage you to plan ahead and wear comfortable shoes.
  • Dress in layers: Ohio weather can be unpredictable. In January, cold outdoor temperatures can make indoor heat feel warmer. With the fluctuations of temperatures, consider dressing in layers for your comfort.
  • Laptop: Bring your laptop to spring orientation so you can bookmark important links and follow along as we introduce you to digital resources at UD. View student computer requirements.
