Unique Perspectives

At the University of Dayton, the study of women's and gender studies focuses on the experiences and perspectives of women and considers how gender intersects with other factors, such as race and class, to shape all of our lives.

Programs of Study

Every Student Is Unique. So Are We.

Flexible Degree

Students pursuing a B.A. in Women's and Gender Studies can obtain a double major, or one or more minors.

Integration of Theory and Practice

Founded upon the integration of theory and practice, and of critique and imagination, women's and gender studies brings approaches from other disciplines and fields into conversation with each other and with critical theories about gender and power to address and improve the lives of women and, by extension, of children and men. Inspired by both feminist and Marianist traditions, the Women's and Gender Studies Program at the University of Dayton promotes:

  • Integration, collaboration and personal engagement in learning.
  • Development and dissemination of critical thinking for social justice.
  • Appreciation and protection of human dignity and diversity.
  • Leadership through responsibility and service to community.

Service Learning and Hands-On Experience

Students gain hands-on experience integrating research with social action and the application of academic knowledge to on-campus communities and communities beyond the University.

100 percent of our students participate in multiple hands-on learning activities. Students explore research, service, leadership, shadowing and community-engaged learning opportunities through a myriad of on-campus and community organizations.
