Undergraduate Visa and Financial Documentation

The United States Bureau of Immigration and Customs Enforcement requires that students who plan to enter the U.S. on the F-1 visa provide proof of the ability to cover tuition, living and other miscellaneous expenses for their first year at a university. To verify this financial capability, the University of Dayton requires students to submit relevant financial documents during the application process by uploading them in the admission account.

Financial Documents

All financial documents must be issued within six months of the application and be in English. Financial documents in the original language must be accompanied by a certified English translation.

Bank Statement

  • Includes liquid funds only.
  • Property documents, salary statements, retirement, investment and business accounts are not accepted.
  • The bank statement should list the minimum one year cost of attendance at UD.

Letter of Financial Support

  • Not required if the student is supporting themselves.
  • A signed statement from each individual listed as the account holder(s) on the bank statement.
  • Lists the relationship to the student (mother, father, uncle, etc.).
  • Indicates the amount of support for one year provided to the student.

Copy of Passport

  • A photocopy of the applicant's passport should be uploaded in the application.
  • If you currently reside in the U.S., please email a copy of your current visa to goglobal@udayton.edu.

Government or Embassy Sponsorship Letter

If a student is missing the letter of financial guarantee from their government sponsor, a student should email goglobal@udayton.edu.

I-20 and U.S. Visa

Students who need the F-1 student visa should obtain the I-20 form from the University of Dayton and secure a U.S. visa.

Process for Obtaining a Visa

  • Students must confirm enrollment by logging into their Admission Account and paying the enrollment deposit. The enrollment deposit is non-refundable and is applied to a student’s tuition.
  • The University of Dayton will issue and email the I-20 form within a week of enrollment confirmation. Please note that the University of Dayton may request updated financial documents from a student if they are expired prior to issuing the I-20 form.
  • Students must pay the SEVIS fee.
  • Students must take the I-20 form, the admission letter, and any other applicable documents to their visa interview.

Students Transferring From Another U.S. Institution

Students transferring to the University of Dayton from another U.S. institution (e.g., secondary school, a community college or another university), need to submit a request to their current institution to transfer a student's SEVIS record to the University of Dayton.
