Flexible Program
Ours is a flexible program. Most of our classes are offered after 5 p.m. for the convenience of those working during the day.
This program is a fully-hybrid format with the option to choose between in-person attendance, online attendance or asynchronous (i.e., recorded) participation on a meeting-by-meeting basis. There are no in-person or synchronous course requirements.
Thesis and Non-Thesis Options Available
Two options are available for the Materials Engineering M.S. degree:
- Thesis option: 24 semester hours of course work (8 classes) and 6 semester hours of research credit.
- Non-thesis option (suggested for International Students): 30 semester hours of course work (10 classes).
With either option, you'll learn from materials experts — including engineers and scientists from the University — as well as the University of Dayton Research Institute (UDRI), Wright-Patterson Air Force Base (WPAFB) and local industries. Some students are able to find financial support for conducting materials research alongside engineers at UDRI and the Air Force Research Laboratory's Materials Directorate at WPAFB.
