Among our favorite activities are the opportunities to recognize and applaud the people who help make the University of Dayton such a special place.
We look forward to these moments when we can put the spotlight on the spiritual and intellectual contributions our faculty, staff and students make. These award winners take steps to help us enhance the Catholic and Marianist characteristics that set the University of Dayton apart.
Marianist Service Award
Established in 1987 by Marianists at UD, this annual award honors full-time staff whose behavior, over a significant number of years, is congruent with the University's Catholic and Marianist character.
Lackner Award
The Marianist religious of the University established an award named after Brother Elmer Lackner ("Mr. UD") to honor a lay member of the UD faculty or staff who, over a long period of time, has made a significant contribution to the Catholic and Marianist character of the University. The Lackner Award has been given annually since 1985.
Marianist Award for Intellectual Contributions
Established in 1950, the Marianist Award was originally presented to scholars who made outstanding contributions to Mariology in America. In 1967, the award was broadened to honor individuals who had made outstanding contributions to humanity. Beginning in 1986, the University of Dayton began presenting this award to honor a Roman Catholic whose work has made a major contribution to the intellectual life.
Maureen O'Rourke Marianist Student Award
