Listen for the upbeat
When you walk outside the heat swallows you whole. Sweat gets in your eyes. It stings. Your tongue gets dry. You want some water. Will your lips even let you play music in this sweltering heat? And the steps, the movements, left and right, forward and backward, turn and stop. It’s a lot to remember on a hot August afternoon tramping around a dry band practice field on Stewart Street. But you’re with your band mates, having fun and doing what you love. Then the scene dissolves and instead of remembering the heat, you’ll look back on these days with affection for the camaraderie.
