Nature is blessed by Mary
Saint Anselm, as a 12th century bishop, gave a sermon saying, “All nature is blessed by Mary.” On campus we see many images and artworks dedicated to and inspired by Mary. Some of our buildings are named for her. The university was once referred to as St. Mary’s. And so, all of nature here is also blessed by Mary — the flowers, animals, and even the campus squirrels. Squirrels can be spotted practically everywhere you look on UD’s campus. To some, they may even seem to appear in the gnarly knots of a particular tree in Humanities Plaza. Perhaps, the next time you see a squirrel, just remember it’s a part of nature, blessed by Mary.
