Walking in a winter wonderland

Walking in a winter wonderland

Staff December 12, 2023

There was a slight chill in the air and a twinkling light almost everywhere you looked on the University of Dayton campus last Friday night as more than 1,000 Dayton Public Schools students descended upon campus to celebrate UD’s 60th Christmas on Campus.

“Christmas on Campus is our opportunity to celebrate the true spirit of Christmas with everyone, most of all the Dayton children,” said Christmas on Campus co-chair Fiona Dusenberry, a senior at UD.

This year’s theme, “A Christmas on Campus Story: Bringing cheer for 60 years,” incorporated alumni volunteers from past Christmas on Campus celebrations returning to UD to lend a hand. The evening included visits with Santa, a Nerf war, live animals, train rides, cookie decorating, dancing and slime making.

“The magic of Christmas fades the older you get, and it’s nice to get the chance to be a kid again and share the magic of Christmas,” Dusenberry said.

University photographer Sylvia Stahl ’18 hadn’t been to the event since she was a student on campus. She was eager to attend this year’s celebration and capture memories for University of Dayton Magazine.

“Being able to see the magic of Christmas through a child’s smile helped me remember how special this event is and why UD hosts it year after year,” she said.

Merry Christmas!

Do you hear what I hear?
