Honoring two Golden Flyers

Honoring two Golden Flyers

Jayonna Johnson '25 December 13, 2023

A special gem of the University of Dayton's holiday festivities is the annual Golden Flyer Christmas Party put on by the UD Alumni Association. Several Golden Flyers (alumni who have graduated at least 50 years ago from the University) where joined together for a holiday dinner and chat with current students, faculty and staff.

This year, the party included two very special guests — two of the University's oldest living alumni, Mary Ann Henz, 100, and Ann Wourms, 99. Henz graduated in 1945 and studied elementary education. As a student, she participated in the choir and the Daytonian Yearbook.

Wourms graduated in 1946 and majored in general studies. As a student, she participated in Greek life and the Student Government Association. She spent her career as a clinical nutritionist at Good Samaritan Hospital in Dayton.

Both ladies sat together and spent the night reminiscing about their days at UD and how much they missed being on campus, especially during the holidays!

Wourms told us that she and her son Thomas Wourms '81 had not been on campus in a very long time and was surprised by how much it has changed since the 1940s.

A Flyer's heart never forgets the spirit of Dayton, no matter the generation!

Cheers to 60 years
