A thankful sisterhood

A thankful sisterhood

Zeakia Jordan '24 November 21, 2023

This holiday season, I am reflecting on the things that have come and gone in my life. There is one event that has stood out as my most important and the thing for which I am most thankful this Thanksgiving.

Earlier this month, I was initiated into the most illustrious sorority — Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. Along with accomplishing a goal I have set my heart on for years, I gained seven new sisters on my journey to obtaining my pink and green.

Entering AKA and interacting with my line sisters and those who have already been members of the Epsilon Chi chapter at UD has shown me what a true sisterhood is – during the toughest time of my life, these women were there for me, building me up when I felt like life was tearing me down. Through encouragement and giving help where they could, I realized that relationships with these women were ones that I desired to keep for the rest of my life.

During the time spent with my line sisters, I have been able to see the true essence of Alpha Kappa Alpha — to be a woman of service, generosity, poise and grace. Through simple conversations with the women of AKA, I have witnessed a passion for sisterhood and service that cannot be extinguished and they have demonstrated this by action of always making sure that those around them are being supported in every way possible to achieve their goals.

Throughout my life, I have always longed for strong bonds with women with the same beliefs and values as I hold. Now that I have them, I will hold them close to my heart. They were my strength when I felt like I had none. They helped me persevere and reach my fullest potential.

I am forever grateful for my sisters that I found in Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. Happy Thanksgiving, Flyers!
