It’s not unusual to see our professors move classes outdoors on an exceptionally beautiful day on campus. The same was true back in 1981. Do you know anyone in this group? Email us at magazine@udayton.edu.

In the late 1960s, UD’s Homecoming events were met with great fanfare and all-around excitement. Former classmates Linda Fischbach ’69 and Jim Place ’69 said they remember the Homecoming parade rolling through downtown Dayton as one of their fondest memories. “I helped build one of the parade floats in the old Flyer’s Hangar,” Fischbach said. “We stuffed tissue paper roses into chicken wire to create the float.” Big signs draped the exterior of St. Joseph Hall, creating excitement for the game on Baujan Field. “The football game was a sellout, and this always fired up the team,” Place said. At halftime came the crowning of the queen. After the game, students attended the Homecoming dance honoring the queen and her court. “The entire Homecoming week brought the campus together in unity and fun,” Place said.
