After the death of his daughter, Jayda, men’s head basketball coach Anthony Grant ’87 said, “At the appropriate time, my wife (Chris) and I plan to advocate for more comprehensive mental health care and to do all we can to increase awareness around these issues.” In May Coach Grant was interviewed for the Ohio Bureau of Workers’ Compensation Medical & Health Symposium. His interview with Tony Coder, the executive director of the Ohio Suicide Prevention Foundation, was titled “Balancing the Effects of Mental Health, a Personal and Professional Story.”

“At the end of the day,” Grant said, “my hope is that we can help others and give purpose to the pain that we experienced.”

All sports benefit from updated training space

A 16-month project has resulted in updated indoor training space for all of the 17 Flyer sports programs. Located in the Cronin Center, the space was named Owens Training Center after Joe Owens, UD’s senior associate athletics director for performance enhancement.

The project includes new equipment, improved lighting and new partitioning systems for more efficient use of space. It also honors two Marianists with the Rev. Charles L. Collins Turf Practice Surface (a 13,925-square-foot synthetic turf multisport surface) and the Brother Elmer Lackner Running Track around the facility’s perimeter.
