Students Advocating for Gender Equity

Students Advocating for Gender Equity (SAGE) Program is an integral part of the Women’s Center in contributing to the Women’s Center mission, developing student leaders committed to gender equity, and providing programs to the UD community related to gender and social justice issues. SAGE provides students with hands-on experience as they develop skills that will be useful to them in the wide variety of fields that they pursue after graduation. In addition, the professional quality of the SAGE’s work greatly enhances the Center’s operations and programs.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES & OUTCOMES

The goal of the SAGE Program is to provide students an opportunity to be involved in all aspects of the Center’s work. The Women’s Center is a space where students can develop skills and knowledge that will enhance and support their academic experiences at UD as well as in their future career. SAGE’s are able to explore new ways of engaging with the UD community while advancing the goal of achieving a more just and equitable society.

As a result of being part of the SAGE Program, students will:

  • Develop skills that can be used in their careers, academic programs, and civic life.
  • Use the skills learned to act as change agents in their roles beyond the SAGE Program.
  • Implement programs and be involved in initiatives that utilize a social justice framework and a gender focus.
  • Gain a better understanding of themselves and their values through self-reflection and dialogue.
  • Gain an understanding of how their actions fit within the larger community.
  • Develop tools for affecting change within the UD community.
  • Receive career and academic guidance throughout from the Center’s professional staff.

EXPECTATIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES

Students involved in SAGE must be dedicated to the Women Center’s mission and educating the UD community regarding gender issues, with the goal of promoting an inclusive and equitable campus. SAGE’s will focus on community outreach and education, and marketing and promoting the Women’s Center.

SAGEs will:
