Veteran and Dependent Federal Benefits

Chapter Benefit Information

The University of Dayton MVPS Center provides a simple step by step process for how to request GI Bill® educational benefits. And GI Bill® recipients keep their merit scholarships, which can be used or refunded for housing, food and other educational expenses.

Veterans, Service Members, Cadets and benefits eligible family members can also register early for courses, getting you the classes you need. Our staff is available to assist at any point along the way.

*Please note, only item 4 must be repeated prior to every semester that you are requesting VA benefits at UD. If this is you first semester requesting benefits, please contact us for a thorough overview of your benefits coverage and our process.

Apply for Benefits

  1. Complete the VA's Online Application to apply for VA education benefits. It will often take the VA 30 days or more to make a decision on education claims.
  2. You will receive a Certificate of Eligibility (COE) from the VA in the mail detailing your education benefit. Submit it to UD Veterans Services at vetservices@udayton.edu.
  3. Complete your applicable Chapter Checklist Form (located further down this page) and email it to vetservices@udayton.edu. If you are eligible, you can find the Yellow Ribbon Application in the same place and submit it as well.
  4. Submit our VA Benefits Certification Request at the link below once your schedule is finalized. You must submit your request for certification every semester.
  5. You are encouraged to explore all financial aid opportunities available.

VA Certification Timeline

  • Fall certification begins in July
  • Spring certification begins in November
  • Summer certification begins in March

You will be notified via email each semester when your courses are certified. If you make changes to your registration, notify us via email at vetservices@udayton.edu.

All Veteran approved programs at UD are listed with the Department of Veterans Affairs. To see a full list of majors and programs currently approved for VA benefits, visit the VA's WEAMS Institution Search, and search for "University of Dayton." You can then select our institution's profile. From the profile, select the "programs" tab to view the current list of programs.
