Technology and training center in Georgia ramping up advanced technologies for Air Force systems sustainment

Representatives from UDRI and the Air Force dedicated the Research Institute’s newest facility—the Air Force Advanced Technology & Training Center (ATTC) in Warner Robins, Ga.—with a ribbon cutting and open house Oct 24.

Created in partnership with the Air Force Life Cycle Management Center, the new 44,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art facility was designed and constructed by UDRI and equipped by the Air Force to facilitate advances in technologies for the sustainment of Air Force systems, enterprise wide. Within the center, Air Force engineers and contractors rapidly and efficiently validate, integrate, demonstrate, scale up, transition and field advanced technologies in additive manufacturing (metals & polymers); cold spray; advanced, environmentally-friendly coating application (and removal) techniques; corrosion mitigation; condition-based maintenance; and the use of artificial intelligence and augmented reality.

The center will also be used to train Air Force and other personnel in the use of these new technologies.

“The standing up of this new facility—in six short months from the initiation of design to occupancy—is a tribute to the hard work of many at UDRI, demonstrating yet again our organization’s ability to be agile and responsive and to work at the speed of business,” said UDRI Director Allan Crasto.

Approximately 100 people attended the dedication, including Dr. Will Roper, Assistant Secretary of the Air Force for Acquisition, Technology & Logistics, Brig. Gen. John Kubinec, Commander of the Warner Robins Air Logistics Complex, state and federal legislators and several senior leaders from the Air Force and local community.
