Virtual New Student Orientation (VNSO)

The University has announced a number of measures to protect the health and safety of our community from the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19), including suspending all University-sponsored on-campus events and gatherings until further notice.

Virtual New Student Orientation (VNSO) 2021

Virtual New Student Orientation is a one-day experience required for all domestic first-year students enrolling in the Fall. The VNSO program occurs over the Summer leading up to Fall move-in. VNSO dates are aligned with students' majors to provide specific information about the academic experience.

VNSO is an opportunity to connect with your future classmates, prepare for academic and non-academic life, and learn to navigate campus prior to arriving for your Fall classes. These virtual sessions serve as an introduction to the University and can help you answer your questions about the incoming student process.

We value community and hope to build a virtual orientation session that provides an opportunity for students to build a connection to faculty/staff and their peers.

What to Expect

  • VNSO is a one-day, summer experience required for all new first-year
students, and it’s an opportunity for you to connect with your future classmates online, prepare for life inside and outside the classroom and learn to navigate campus prior to arriving in the fall.
  • VNSO features sessions for you and parent/family lounges for your parents or family members to get questions answered about topics like academics, health, safety, college transitions and support services.
  • The experience will include an opportunity to meet with your academic unit, an overview of university resources and technology, and a chance to interact with multiple university offices that will support you on your UD journey.
  • While the program will be led virtually, it still includes opportunities for students to engage with their peers and classmates through small group sessions.

Parent & Family Lounges

Parents and family members are important support systems for their incoming student, and should be knowledgeable about the expectations that UD has of its students. The Parent and Family Lounges are designed to educate family members about the resources available to their student(s) and answer questions that family members might have about topics such as academics, health and safety, and student support services.

During registration, students will have the opportunity to sign one parent or family member up to participate in the lounge and additional orientation/transition communications.
