Greek Values

One of the greatest opportunities in college is to develop leadership skills and to apply these skills in practical situations. Fraternity and sorority life at UD promotes, encourages and provides experiences in leadership development. Each chapter is self-governed and offers its members the opportunity to learn and improve leadership skills through chapter participation and campus involvement.

One of the most gratifying aspects of fraternity and sorority life is the sense of satisfaction and pride that comes through ones involvement in community service. Fraternities and sororities at the University of Dayton have recognized this need and are actively involved in service projects both on and off campus. Throughout the year, the chapter members donate time and raise money for philanthropic agencies and their own special projects. UD fraternities and sororities donate many hours and raise a lot of money for local and national community service organizations. Whether raising funds or volunteering time, service to others is an important component of the fraternity or sorority experience.

Academic achievement is the cornerstone for an individual's future success. The fraternity and sorority community at UD is committed to creating an environment conducive to learning and attaining scholastic goals.  This is exemplified by the fact that the all sorority average is consistently above the all female average.

The social life in a fraternity or sorority helps the student develop a sense of poise, personality and social graces, all of which are helpful later in life. The ability to function comfortably in a social environment will prove very important in developing the whole person. Being a member of a group of people will allow the individual to share common interests and develop friendships within the fraternity and sorority community. Along with building awareness, social events also serve as an enjoyable aspect of college life. Fraternities and sororities at UD sponsor date parties, socials with one another, and formals, to name a few. All fraternity and sorority chapters are required to conduct ongoing education to promote the responsible use of alcohol while abiding by city, state and federal laws.

76% of US Senators are fraternity/sorority members
