Reopening Information

Campus Recreation Reopening

University of Dayton Campus Recreation recognizes the immense benefits that exercise provides to one’s physical and mental health, to include positive effects on the immune system while combatting chronic diseases that place individuals at higher risk for COVID-19. Our top priority is to reopen with the utmost care to promote the health and safety of members and employees. Below we have outlined the steps that will be taken to help minimize the potential for exposure and the spread of COVID-19, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE), physical barriers, physical distancing, and appropriate cleaning and disinfection procedures. What other adjustments are being made?

The West entrance (off of Evanston) to the RecPlex will have a one-way entrance and exit. We ask that those using the East entrance (off of the S2/S4 parking lot) to the building follow the appropriate signage asking patrons to use one side of the doors as an entrance and one as an exit. Please follow all directional signage within the facility.

Upon entering the RecPlex, members will check in at the Welcome Desk and self-scan their ID to gain access. A UDCR employee will verify identity from computer screen behind the plexiglass barrier. If there is a line, we ask that members follow the appropriate signage in order to create a 6-foot distance from other members and staff. Members will also check in at the entrance of their selected zone.

Those who have made a reservation at the Rockwall will check in at the table located at the Rockwall.

The University of Dayton is not accepting cash transactions at this time. Members may make payments by card, check or payroll deduction.

Guests and minors under the age of 16 are not permitted during Phase I of reopening. We will be revaluating this policy for future phases. Those who are member-eligible and wish to purchase a single-use pass may do so.

In order to accommodate our members and employees in a safer manner, occupancy levels have been limited in each zone. Those levels are posted at the entrance to each zone.

Relevant directional and informational signage will be posted throughout the RecPlex, including 6-foot spacing at the Welcome Desk and all zone entrances for those waiting in line.

Members will have use of the restrooms and locker rooms located around the RecPlex. The showers will also be open – members must sanitize with the provided spray before and after use, while UDCR will be deep cleaning the showers twice a day. Please be sure to bring your own towel!

Equipment from the Fitness Center has been relocated to the indoor track and MAC Gym Court 5 in order to allow for appropriate physical distancing. Each piece of cardio and selectorized equipment has been separated by 12 feet, twice the recommended distance, to promote a healthy environment for members.

The Aquatic Center will implement a clockwise rotation to enter/exit the pool deck, with a limitation of one swimmer per lane.

IV. What is UDCR doing to promote a healthy and safe environment?

UDCR staff is conducting hourly touchpoint sanitation, including workstations, equipment, screens, credit card portals, doorknobs, stair rails, restrooms, etc.

UDCR is also conducting electrostatic deep cleaning at least twice per day.

Single-use germicidal gym wipes are to be used by members both pre and post equipment use.

Hand sanitizing stations are located throughout the RecPlex.

Pool chemicals are maintained at the upper limits of specified recommendations with chemical levels tested every two hours.

In accordance with the American Red Cross certification held by all UDCR staff (student and professional), a 2-person bag valve mask (BVM) would be utilized if rescue breathing or CPR were deemed necessary due to a medical emergency and until advanced medical professionals arrive on scene. This would minimize aerosoled respiration and provide protective barriers, while not jeopardizing the delivery of care.

V. COVID-19 is a shared risk, what steps can I take to lessen the risk of infection?

Members are asked to conduct self-screening prior to arrival at the RecPlex, and stay home if they feel sick, have a temperature, if someone in his/her household is sick or has been diagnosed with COVID-19, or if the person has allergies in which they can’t control sneezing. Visit cdc.gov for information on COVID-19 symptoms.

- Individuals, including both employees and members, are required to wear face coverings at all times in all public areas in the RecPlex and during outdoor UDCR programming. This includes locker rooms and restrooms.

- Face coverings are also required of all individuals in the Aquatic Center unless actively engaged in swimming or other activities inside the pool.

We ask that all members and employees wash and sanitize hands upon entering and prior to leaving the facility via soap and water or hand sanitizing dispensers.

- It’s important to maintain a distance of at least six feet from other members and employees when possible.

- The use of spotting by another member or employees is prohibited. We urge members to instead use the equipment at an appropriate weight that allows for a physically-distanced workout.

- We ask that all members plan a workout routine ahead of time to avoid lingering and socializing, while completing your workout in the allocated time of 45 minutes.

- Members should arrive dressed for a workout.

- Bring already filled water bottles or sport drinks.

- Please wipe down each piece of equipment before and after use using the aforementioned gym wipes. Use a fresh wipe each time and dispose of the wipe appropriately after use.

- We ask that members use only one piece of equipment or machine at a time (i.e. no circuits or “super setting”).

- Please avoid using lifting gloves or other personal items that are not easily cleaned.

The current environment calls for us to be fluid, so please be sure to check the website frequently for the most recent updates! In order to ensure that you receive all member communication, please contact us to verify we have your preferred email address on file.

A reminder that Campus Recreation has the right to refuse service to anyone exhibiting symptoms or not following facility guidelines. This is a team effort between UDCR staff and members to lessen the risk of infection and promote a safe and healthy environment!
