FAQs

RECkids Camp is open to all University of Dayton and surrounding-area community children. Check out the 2025 UDCR RECKids Camp Handbook for more information!

While RECkids Camp is open to children as young as six, some children are not yet ready for camp. Please make sure your camper is ready by asking yourself the following:

  • Is my child able to change his or her own clothing? Due to liability reasons, camp staff is instructed to not assist children in changing their clothing for any reason.
  • Is my child able to tend to personal needs such as toileting and eating? Camp staff is not able to assist with personal needs.
  • Will my child generally follow simple directions and rules in a structured setting? Most rules are set to ensure the safety of all campers, and children must be able to follow these rules.

Campers must be six (6) years old on or before August 2, 2024, AND have completed kindergarten or the equivalent to kindergarten and be entering the 1st grade. Campers may attend camp through age 12.

An overview of the upcoming activities and projected schedule will be sent prior to each camp week. We anticipate your camper to have a ton to talk about after each camp day. To wrap up each week, we will send via email an electronic photo slide-show and weekly recap of the week’s magical moments.

We expect campers to arrive at camp with a lunch. There are a two times during the camp program for a snack break. Children are responsible to bring their own snacks and lunch every day. We also ask campers to bring a water bottle (labeled with their first and last name in black permanent marker). Water will be readily available for campers throughout the day.

PLEASE NOTE:

To create a safe and inclusive environment for all of our campers, RECkids Camp is a nut free camp.

  • Clothing: Please have your camper dress comfortably for active sports that can get dirty and possibly wet. Hats are strongly recommended for outdoor activities. Please also pack a swim suit and towel for pool time. Some days may be UD spirit or themed-dress up days, which you will be informed with advanced notice.
  • Footwear: For your camper's protection, we ask that campers wear athletic, closed-toe shoes with socks. Sandals are permissible for pool time.
  • Sunscreen: All children are required to bring sunscreen to camp. Please assist campers in putting on sunscreen before arriving to camp. Your child will also have frequent opportunities to reapply the sunscreen during the day. We have found that spray bottles work best. Please be aware that staff is not allowed to apply sunscreen on your child; they must apply lotion by themselves.

Camp encourages physical activity and endurance during various sports and activities that are played. If your child is not able to participate in any activity, please notify us and speak to your child's counselor. We encourage you to bring to our attention any special needs or concern.

If your family is registering one or multiple campers, please register for RECkids Camp by going to ActiveFlyers!  Watch the"how-to" sign up video below for a step-by-step tutorial.

RECkids Camp holds an orientation session for parents to attend.  This session occurs before camp begins and is for registered families to meet the camp staff and learn more about the activities planned for camp.  In addition, we will email registered families our RECkids Camp Handbook.

Our top priority is to ensure your child is safe at camp. We insist on each individual picking up a camper to show a valid identification card that was documented at time of registration. Even if it is your sixth week of camp, will still verify your driver’s license number each and every day.

If you are checking in a camper after 9 a.m., please walk your camper to the RecPlex’s Welcome Desk. The Welcome Desk staff will radio to our counselors who will meet you at the Welcome Desk.  If you need to pick your child up before 4 p.m., please also speak to a staff member at the RecPlex Welcome Desk who will radio to our counselors and walk your child to you.

For communications to campers and staff, please call the Campus Recreation Welcome Desk at 937-229-2704 or the Main Office at 937-229-2731. The staff will then share the message with the RECkids Director and/or Lead RECkids staff who will contact the counselors.

You are always welcome to contact the RECkids Camp staff by phone at 937.229.2731 or by email at RECkids@udayton.edu.
