Break away from campus life with other students on an outdoor adventure! Outdoor Education provides students, faculty, and staff with the means to get active and learn about the natural world around them.

EARTHFEST 2018

Campus recreation, along with the Hanley Sustainability Institute, Rivers Institute and the Sustainability Club are excited to present EarthFest --a day celebrating the earth and outdoors! The University of Dayton community and friends are welcome to join us for an afternoon outside with FREE activities such as:

  • Paddling
  • Yoga
  • Tie Dye
  • Fishing
  • Biking
  • Slacklining
  • Live music
  • Chopped competition
  • Art in the Park
  • UD Paws 4 Ability Puppies

Local food trucks will also have food available for purchase!

TRANSPORTATION
Located only a short mile from campus by the 1700 building, Old River Park is easy to get to! Catch one of the free shuttles, or enjoy the fresh air by following the outlined bike and walking routes below.

SHUTTLES AND PARKING - Free shuttles for students will depart from the RecPlex Evanston entrance every 15 minutes beginning at noon. The last shuttle will depart for the day at 2:30pm. 

Parking can be found in the R2 Lot of Dan Curran Place.

BIKE ROUTE - A group ride will be leaving the RecPlex Evanston entrance at Noon. Check out one of UDCR's RecBikes or utilize code 9743 provided by Link Dayton Bike Share and ride to Old River Park for free! The suggested bike route from campus is as follows:

  1. Follow Caldwell St. for 0.2 miles.
  2. Turn right behind Fitz Hall and follow for 0.2 miles to Stewart St.
  3. Turn left onto Stewart St. (Stewart St. Bikeway) and follow for 0.4 miles.
  4. Turn left onto S Patterson Blvd (Great Miami River Recreational Trail/Ohio Bicycle Rt. 25) and follow for 0.6 miles.
  5. Turn left onto Carillon Blvd. and follow for 0.3 miles until you reach the entrance to Old River Park!

WALKING ROUTE - A walking group will be leaving the RecPlex Evanston entrance at Noon if you'd like to join. Otherwise, leave anywhere from campus following these directions:

  1. Follow Caldwell St. for 0.2 miles to River Park Dr.
  2. Turn left onto River Park Dr. and follow for 0.2 miles.
  3. Turn left onto S Patterson Blvd. and follow for 0.5 miles.
  4. Turn left onto Carillon Blvd. and follow for 0.2 miles until you reach the entrance to Old River Park!

Wilderness first aid Certification course

The best and most comprehensive course of its kind to offer relevant and realistic first-aid training for seasonal outdoor activities or short term wilderness endeavors and pursuits.
