Developing the whole person through engagement with the community is central to the Catholic, Marianist philosophy. Health Education and Wellbeing seeks to cultivate a community in which all members of the community take an active role in fostering an ethic of wellbeing, where all members of the community can succeed, thrive and matter. To build a culture of wellbeing we must engage in a comprehensive approach that builds individual capacity and self-efficacy, fosters meaningful relationships, as well as prioritizes environments and policies which make healthy choice the easy choice.
Health Equity works to address the social, political, economic, and systematic differences in health, health outcomes, and health systems. Health Equity Education at the University of Dayton is characterized by the learning opportunities in which students are encouraged to reflect on the ways in which their values, decisions, and identities are reflected in their health behaviors. These opportunities also provide students with tips and strategies to enhance their holistic wellbeing.

Guided by its Catholic and Marianist values, the University of Dayton calls all of its members to commit to "honoring the intrinsic value and dignity of all people" (Presidential Statement on Diversity & Inclusion). The Brook Center honors that commitment by housing a LGBTQ+ Student Services Coordinator who connects students with resources, provides support, develops campus wide programming, and builds community.
Our goal is to foster a more welcoming campus community where all students who identify as Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer (LGBTQ+) feel welcomed, respected, safe, and valued as full members of the University of Dayton community.

Relationships with Others
Peer education is a cornerstone of the Brook Center's work. Your voice as a student is the most powerful in our community. Through peer education, our campus community will thrive.
You are already influencing your friends. That is undeniable. The question that you must ask yourself is ... how are you influencing your friends? Join us as we work together to make our campus community stronger, happier, and healthier.

Relationships with the World Around You
In an effort to reduce food insecurity among students in the UD community, the Brook Center and the Dean of Students office have collaborated on the creation of the Food4Flyers Food Pantry. University of Dayton students are encouraged to take up to 10 items once per week.
If you'd like to make a physical donation, please do so by dropping items off at the Brook Center office. Other donations can be made here.
The Flyer Farmers’ Market is a weekly event featuring local food and product vendors as well as sustainability, nutrition, and wellbeing offices and student organizations. Visit the market to stock your pantry with healthy local foods and engage with health, wellbeing and sustainability resources on campus. The 2023 market will run every Wednesday 2:00-5:00pm, August 23rd through November 1st. Contact flyerfarmersmarket@udayton.edu with any questions.

I am like a brook that makes no effort to overcome obstacles in its way. All the obstacles can do is hold me up for a while, as a brook is held up; but during that time it grows broader and deeper and after a while it overflows the obstruction and flows along again. This is how I am going to work.
