Fuels and Energy
Anchored by the Von Ohain Fuels and Combustion Center, this collaborative research area also is growing and increasing in externally sponsored research volume. UD is an vital part of Ohio Consortium for Advance Propulsion which is a collaborative effort with the Ohio State University and the University of Cincinnati. The State of Ohio has named UD as a Center of Excellence in Fuels and Combustion. This research area also enjoys broad participation from the Science departments, School of Engineering and the Research Institute. The future avenues of discovery will include coal to liquid fuels research and clean, alternative energy research. A new initiative at UD called SEE (Sustainable Energy and Environment) will bolster the collaboration by bringing together many disciplines to work on a broad variety of topics associated with the area of energy and the environment. This collaborative area has also received funding from the Ohio Research Scholars Program bringing over $4 million and two endowed positions to the University of Dayton. Significant work in wind energy, fuel cells/batteries, and algae research is propelling researchers at UD to new discoveries important to the progress of these alternative energy areas.
