Maureen E. O'Rourke Marianist Student Award
The Marianist Student Award is named after its first recipient, Maureen Elizabeth O'Rourke. This annual award initiated by the Rector's Council is designed to acknowledge the contribution of a graduating senior who exemplifies the Marianist charism on campus.
Vowed Marianists on campus, Marianist Educational Associates, Marianist Lay Formation participants, Marianist Leadership Scholars, Marianist Student Communities, Campus Ministry and Student Development staff, and the Executive Committee of the Student Government Association are asked to submit nominations.

Building on a firm foundation of faith and family, Kiara DiLoreto lives her Catholic and Marianist values through thoughtful and intentional actions that serve God’s creation. With a particular focus on sustainability, dialogue, and anti-racist work, Kiara embodies the Marianist spirit of mission, community, and inclusivity. Her consistent dedication to the common good is evident in her involvement with the Marianist Leadership Scholars and its Leadership Team, Middle Ground, the Dialogue Zone, and the Hanley Sustainability Institute. In recognition of her positive and profound impact at UD, Kiara received the Riley Award in 2021. Exploration into environmentally friendly construction materials and solar energy enables Kiara to combine her passion for the earth with her academic pursuits in Civil Engineering. A member of Women in Science and Engineering and a middle school soccer coach, Kiara inspires women and girls to pursue their dreams. For her deep care for creation, strong commitment to the Dayton community, and tireless efforts to put her faith into action, we are proud to honor Kiara DiLoreto with the 2023 Maureen E. O’Rourke Marianist Student Award.
Naturally embodying faith, hospitality, and service, Mira models Mary as a woman of deep prayer and resolute action. In a gentle and authentic manner, Mira invites others into a stronger relationship with Christ so they may also experience a deep sense of peace and joy. Through her various roles in Catholic Life and her commitment to living in a Marianist Student Community, Mira purposefully and joyfully welcomes people into her home and her heart, inspiring individuals and groups to “stay at the table” throughout comfortable and challenging conversations. Through her efforts to begin a women’s ministry and lead regular bible studies, Mira seeks to empower women to embrace Christian womanhood and the feminine genius. A recipient of the McGrath Research Award, Mira advocated for positive change in the Church and justice for victims of clerical abuse. Using her intellect, innovation, and pragmatic gifts, Mira serves the Catholic and Marianist mission of UD. For the ways Mira actively leads others deeper in their faith, modeling Mary’s openness to the spirit, personal relationship with Christ, and service to others, we are proud to honor Mira Wilson with the 2023 Maureen E. O’Rourke Marianist Student Award.
