Marianist Awards

Among our favorite activities are the opportunities to recognize and applaud the people who help make the University of Dayton such a special place.

We look forward to these moments when we can put the spotlight on the spiritual and intellectual contributions our faculty, staff and students make. These award winners take steps to help us enhance the Catholic and Marianist characteristics that set the University of Dayton apart.

When you see who's on the lists of past recipients, you'll understand why this is one the best things we do every year.

Marianist Service Award
The Marianist Service Award was established in 1987 by Marianists working at the University of Dayton. Each year, this award honors full-time staff whose behavior, over a significant number of years, is congruent with the University's Catholic and Marianist character.
Lackner Award
The Lackner Award is named in honor of Bro. Elmer Lackner, S.M., whose influence permeated nearly all areas of University life. Bro. Elmer, known as "Mr. UD,"  served at the University of Dayton for 45 years in a variety of roles. When he died in 1984, the Marianist priests and brothers established this award.
Marianist Award

Established in 1950, the Marianist Award was originally presented to scholars who made outstanding contributions to Mariology in America. In 1967, the concept for the award was broadened to honor individuals who made outstanding contributions to humanity.

The Marianist Award was revived in 1986 when the University of Dayton announced that it would again present the award annually, this time to honor a Roman Catholic whose work has made a major contribution to the intellectual life. 
Marianist Student Award
The Maureen E. O'Rourke Marianist Student Award is named after its first recipient, Maureen Elizabeth O'Rourke. This annual award, initiated by the Rector's Council, is designed to acknowledge the contribution of a graduating senior who exemplifies the Marianist charism on campus.
