Fellowship Description and Application Checklist (Google Doc)

Fellowships of up to $2,000 (maximum) are available each year and are awarded on a competitive basis to undergraduate students (individual or group) in all disciplines in their first, second, third, or fourth (non-graduating) year of instruction. The fellowships are awarded in Spring term to qualified applicants for their projected expenses for materials, travel, software, etc., to support their research and creative endeavors. The fellowships, made possible by the Brother Joseph W. Stander Symposium, are awarded based on statements of relevance submitted by qualified applicants. All fellowship applications will be evaluated at one time; the committee will evaluate each request based upon the merits and needs of the individual student’s proposal.

Up to $2,000 (maximum)

Open to all undergraduate students enrolled at the University of Dayton in their first, second, third, or fourth (non-graduating) year of instruction. All fellowship awardees must present the progress and/or results of their work in at least one event (poster session, oral presentation, performance, etc.) during the Brother Joseph W. Stander Symposium the following Spring 2019.

Applications should include:

  • Proposal with statement of educational justification, research question, and/or abstract (limit to 1,500 words)
  • Project Timeline (concludes with presenting at Stander)
  • Budget (materials/supplies, travel, etc. and other sources of funding)
  • Current Resume
  • Two faculty/staff letters of support (submitted directly from faculty by email to
  • Faculty must address the appropriateness of the expenditures to support the student’s research and creative endeavors; whether or not the expenditures are unique or being supported through other funds; and whether or not the expenditures are realistic and commensurate with the proposed outcomes.
