Message to parents and guardians about returning to campus for spring semester 2021

Dec. 9, 2020

Dear University of Dayton parents and guardians,

Please see this message sent to students today with information about returning to campus for the spring 2021 semester.

We believe the University's plan will provide an orderly process for the beginning of next semester and help reduce the risk that the virus will be introduced and spread within the campus community.

We will not require students to be tested for COVID-19 prior to returning to campus in January, but students must receive a University-administered test on campus before moving into their residences or starting in-person classes.

Students will wait in the RecPlex while their test is processed and results should be available within 20-30 minutes. If they test positive, they will receive additional tests to confirm, the results of which could take up to two hours. Students with confirmed positive results will be expected to return home if they live closer than 400 miles from campus.

To help prepare your student for returning to campus in January, we strongly recommend they quarantine or limit contact to only your immediate household for 14 days before they return to campus. Doing so will help reduce the risk of bringing COVID-19 to campus and having to immediately return home to isolate or possibly moving to campus isolation housing.

Our safety protocols remain in place for the spring semester. We appreciate your efforts to reaffirm to your student the importance of following public health guidance, especially wearing face coverings, practicing physical distancing, and, perhaps most importantly, avoiding groups larger than 10 people or people outside their household. All of these efforts will help our students make a safe and healthy return to campus in January and sustain in-person learning throughout the semester.
