The Path Forward: Messages

Family News Digest

5/20/2020

Dear Flyer parent or guardian, Last week you heard from President Eric Spina on the UD Path Forward. As a parent or guardian of a current UD student, the University is committed to communicating with you about important updates on fall semester planning; resources for learning, faith and health; and hearing from various voices from across campus as we look toward August.

Phased approach to move out began May 15

Students began retrieving their belongings from their University of Dayton residences last weekend. The phased approach, approved by Public Health - Dayton and Montgomery County, offers students four-hour blocks during assigned periods:

  • May 15-24 for Ohio residents within 60 miles of campus
  • May 25-31 for all other Ohio residents
  • June 1-21 for University of Dayton students outside Ohio

Please reference the message sent to students May 6 about retrieving their belongings for more details.

Schedule updates

Health center hours are now 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday through Thursday. Mailing services are open 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. weekdays and 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on weekends, through June 21, so students can pick up mail and packages while on campus to retrieve their belongings. In-person Masses in the Archdiocese of Cincinnati are canceled through May 24, but you can join UD's Marianist brothers for live Mass at 10 a.m. Sundays on YouTube. For more information and other updates, visit go.udayton.edu/coronavirus.

Don’t forget to complete your FAFSA form

  • File the 2020-21 FAFSA to be considered for federal, state and university aid. Students with a net tuition guarantee will automatically be considered for renewal of university funds. FAFSA forms received after the April 1 priority deadline are considered for aid on a rolling basis.
  • Review Porches and complete any outstanding financial aid requirements (most financial aid forms can be completed electronically via Adobe Sign). Financial aid awards will be available beginning in mid June, aid should be considered estimated until all requirements are complete.
  • Students may complete the application to be considered for donor-funded scholarships; awards will be made throughout the summer.

The University is here to support student learning this summer

The Office of Learning Resources offers online tutoring, academic coaching and Write Place support and will work with students regarding disability- or medical condition-related accommodation needs throughout the summer. For more details: go.udayton.edu/learning.

Your student's book questions, answered

The UD Bookstore advises that course materials can be pre-ordered online June 22-Aug. 9. For ease and safety, the bookstore recommends that course materials be shipped to your home, as they won’t be available for in-store pickup until the start of the fall semester and the checkout process will be low touch and cash will not be accepted. For more, visit shop.udayton.edu.

Convey what you've learned to prospective employers

Career Services invites students to upcoming virtual workshops about current workforce challenges and how to overcome those obstacles. Session topics, dates, times and registration links can be found on the Career Services website. Please register on Zoom in advance for the sessions.
