ALEKS Math Readiness Assessment
Math Placement
Welcome to the ALEKS Math Placement Assessment. As a student preparing to embark on your educational journey at UD, ALEKS is here to help you to get the most out of your placement testing experience. The ALEKS assessment has 25 questions and will generally take students between 60-90 minutes to complete. A student’s score is generally not the only factor that will determine the math course in which they are ultimately enrolled. For more information about score interpretation, please reach out to the student’s Dean’s Office.
At UD, we understand that every learner is unique, and that's why our placement program is tailored to meet individual needs. ALEKS utilizes adaptive technology to assess your current knowledge and skills, ensuring that you start in the best math class for you at this point in your academic journey.

ALEKS FAQ
ALEKS helps student's academic advisor make sure that they are in the right math class! Every student takes different courses and has different preparations for college math. ALEKS looks at where they are with math right now and helps place students in the right class.
Students have up to three hours to complete the exam. Most students take less than 75 minutes.
ALEKS can be completed on most PCs and Mac computers. There is an on screen calculator built in to the test should students need it; other calculators are not permitted.
Reach out to mathplacement@udayton.edu, and we will work with you to address accessibility needs.
Student's exams will be proctored by Respondus. Respondus is a downloaded proctoring tool that will record their screen to ensure they do not have other materials present while taking the exam. Students will need to be able to install the download from Respondus so make sure they have rights to do that on the computer in use.
We recommend that students borrow a computer from a loved one, such as a friend or family. If they need further assistance, please reach out to mathplacement@udayton.edu.
Don’t panic! Email mathplacement@udayton.edu and let us know what happened. Please note this email account is monitored during UD Business Hours (8:30-4:40, Monday-Friday). We recommend that you be proactive and start your exam before any deadlines.
