Learning in a Diverse Global Learning Community

Work towards Culture Synergy!

  • Step 1: Be aware of different learning expectations.
  • Step 2: Develop a dialogue to learn about each other’s expectations.
  • Step 3: Value the exchange of cultures of learning and learn reciprocally.

Motivating Students

Here is one way of thinking about motivation:

  1. Internal motivation is driven from our attitudes, values and beliefs. In addition to these important factors, our family behaviors, practices, and traditions shape our choices. These choices, as they relate to motivation might include one's work ethic, completion of tasks, cooperation, and communication choices. This inner force prompts visible behaviors.
  2. External motivation is driven from rewards, recognition and reinforcements. Some examples include monetary rewards, attention, support, encouragement, benefits and promotions.

You can inspire and externally motivate, but remember internal motivation comes from within!

  • Encourage a sense of belonging and a growth mindset.
  • What motivates one person might not motivate another. Get to know whom you are working with each semester!
  • What motivates someone today might not work the next time. So, try, try, again!
