onMain announces stabilization, renovation work on historic Roundhouse

onMain Inc. announces the exposition building, better known as the Roundhouse, will undergo a stabilization and exterior renovation project beginning this week. This marks the kickoff of visible work the community will see as onMain begins its innovative redevelopment of the 38-acre site just south of downtown Dayton.

The Roundhouse, once the centerpiece of the former Montgomery County Fairgrounds, will receive much-needed exterior restoration thanks in part to $900,000 in funding secured through U.S. Rep. Mike Turner in a previous federal appropriations bill.

"We are excited for our community to see work begin on this project," said Brian Heitkamp, CEO of onMain. "The Roundhouse holds a special place in the hearts of many, and we are committed to its preservation. This project is a significant step in onMain’s future and in revitalizing a beloved piece of our past."

onMain is contracting with Ferguson Construction to complete the work on the Roundhouse, including:

  • Custom window, door and louver fabrication and installation: Work will be done off-site to fabricate new windows, doors and louvers that precisely match the original configuration, maintaining the building's historical accuracy.
  • Exterior facade repair and painting: The building’s exterior wood facade including sheathing, battens and trim will be repaired and painted, restoring its original aesthetic and appeal.

The project is expected to be completed in late summer.

The Roundhouse stabilization is not the only work the community will see happening at the onMain site in the coming months. As announced in December 2024, installation of the first phase of infrastructure; including utilities, roadways, sidewalks and parks; is scheduled to begin in late spring or early summer.

onMain will provide updates to the community during the project.
