Nominations open for Gem City Black Business Month Awards
The Greater West Dayton Incubator is accepting nominations for the 2024 Gem City Black Business Month Awards, a celebration of excellence and innovation in the local Black business community.
“The awards recognize and honor outstanding individuals and organizations that have made significant contributions to Dayton’s economic growth and success,” said Director Whitney Barkley.
Throughout the month of August, Gem City celebrates Black Business Month, a monthlong campaign designed to empower Black entrepreneurs by providing essential support and connecting them with valuable resources to foster the growth of their businesses.
The awards, sponsored by Fifth Third Bank, recognize a business owner who has paved the way for others; a young entrepreneur with significant achievements; a person or organization that has facilitated partnerships and growth; an entrepreneur with relentless drive and determination; and a community favorite.
Nominations are open through July 12 on the Greater West Dayton Incubator website. The public will vote for the 2024 winners online from July 22 to Aug. 9. Winners will be announced Aug. 29.
Last year’s Hustler of the Year winner Martina Scott, owner of Boss Potatoes, said the award “gave me the courage to continue to go harder this year. It gave me more reach to more customers and made me proud of my company.”
The Greater West Dayton Incubator was developed in partnership by community leaders of Greater West Dayton and the University of Dayton to help create a more inclusive economy, which can drive positive change in the community. It offers access to working space, consulting, training, capital and other resources.
