Catholic Volunteer Network lists University of Dayton Center for Social Concern among Top Schools for Service

The Catholic Volunteer Network has listed the University of Dayton and its Center for Social Concern housed in the Office of Campus Ministry among its Top Schools for Service, a list of 25 campus ministry and service-learning offices nationwide that have demonstrated excellence in supporting young adults and advocating for post-graduate service programs.

A panel of CVN staff and board members selected UD based on a survey of volunteer programs, volunteers and what led them to their postgraduate service programs, and CVN staff evaluations of how schools have worked with the network.

"The University of Dayton is a popular school among volunteer program recruiters," said Mike McCormick, Catholic Volunteer Network outreach coordinator. "UD and its campus ministry teams show exceptional encouragement of post-grad service among students and exceptional collaboration with our network. These campus professionals walk with students, help them engage in service, and help them to consider how to incorporate spirituality and social justice into their lives post-graduation."

The center drives many of the University's service programs and provides leadership and resources for students to become servant-leaders. The center's Beyond UD program provides resources, encourages and helps students in their period of discernment about volunteering full-time after graduation.

Through the center, UD students engage in service globally through domestic and international immersions that include REAL Dayton, the UD Summer Appalachia Program, Service Saturdays, and work with several humanitarian agencies addressing issues associated with hunger, health, literacy, peace, community development, homelessness and the environment, among others.
