Op-ed: 'We must restore legitimacy to US Supreme Court'

In an op-ed published Oct. 31 in The Columbus Dispatch, Erica Goldberg, assistant professor of law, outlines how we, the people, can restore legitimacy to the U.S. Supreme Court.

Goldberg, who also was a clerk in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit, has had her work published in the Columbia Law Review, Cardozo Law Review, Connecticut Law Review and the Michigan Law Review First Impressions, among others. She also blogs at In a Crowded Theater, and links to her blog posts have appeared in media including The Washington Post and

In the op-ed, Goldberg writes: "Everyone has a role to play in relegitimizing the judiciary. But we, the people, need to be more fair-minded to get past our personal beliefs to see the legal reasoning behind court decisions. 

"And we also must remember that it is a court that upholds an oath to protect and defend the constitution of the United States of America. It is not a court of public opinion."
