Gubernatorial Debate Media Information


Welcome to the University of Dayton and the first 2018 Ohio gubernatorial debate. Here are some items to help your visit and coverage of the event go more smoothly.

Schedule Quick Reference

  • 3 p.m. — Media workroom and spin room open. Credential pickup begins. The deadline to request credentials was 4:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 13.
  • 4-7 p.m. — Sandwiches, snacks and beverages available in the media workroom.
  • 4:55-5:40 p.m. — Debate room available for live shots. Media must be escorted to the debate room by UD staff. Contact a UD news and communications staff member if you're interested in doing a live shot from the debate room.
  • 7 p.m. — Debate starts. Media can watch live feed in media workroom. Students from the University of Dayton Vote Everywhere program will be watching the debate in the Center for Leadership on the second floor. It is open to the media. Students can be available for interviews after the debate, if they choose. Vote Everywhere also is hosting a debate watch party in Kennedy Union; the College Republicans are hosting a watch party in the Adèle Center; and College Democrats will be volunteering or watching from Curran Place.
  • 8-8:55 p.m. — Spin room available for post-debate interviews.
  • Midnight — Media workroom and spin room close.


  • Building address is 1700 S. Patterson Blvd., Dayton, Ohio, 45469. The name of the building is Daniel J. Curran Place on the University's River Campus.
  • Parking is available on a first-come basis in the north lot as you enter River campus. No permit is needed. There is ample parking for live trucks.
  • Live trucks are not permitted along sidewalks or the driveway leading to or from the front of the building.

Digital Media Kit


  • Pickup is inside the north entrance to the building, starting at 3 p.m.
  • You will need to show your photo ID to pick up credentials.
  • The deadline to request credentials was 4:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 13.

Media Workroom and Spin Room

  • Open 3 p.m.-midnight.
  • Complimentary sandwiches, snacks and beverages available from 4-7 p.m. in the media workroom.
  • The Wi-Fi network for media use is "govdebate" and the password is "cordraydewine."
  • A UDit help desk will be in the media workroom to assist with IT needs and issues.
  • There is a coat room in the media workroom.
  • The spin room, located across from the media workroom, will be available after the debate for interviews. The candidates' spin room sessions will be separate.


  • Restrooms are located between the media workroom and spin room.

Restricted Areas

  • Please avoid restricted areas or interfering with other media, staff, guests or vehicle movement.
  • Restricted areas include common public areas while the public enters building, the area behind the building, candidates' production briefings, and the dressing and holding rooms of each candidate.
  • The debate room is strictly off limits from 3 p.m. until after the debate (except for the period designated for escorted live shots).
  • Other restricted areas may be designated by University of Dayton public safety and/or staff.

Live Shots

  • Recommended spots are in front of the building, outside the north entrance (there may be some noise pollution from an air handler).
  • The debate room (4:55 p.m. to 5:40 p.m. only, with an escort) and the spin room (except for post-debate interview session).
  • You also are welcome to go to our main campus for live shots. The address is 300 College Park, Dayton, Ohio, 45469.


Live Feed of the Event

  • Cox Media Group Ohio, the presenting media partner, will provide a live feed (32 audio and visual connections and 32 audio connections only) of the debate to the media workroom.
  • Please email if you need a direct feed from the production truck. Please specify the type of feed and connection (HD SDI, XLR, BNC, etc).
  • A pool photographer will shoot the first 10 minutes of the debate and will make photos available as soon as possible via The Associated Press wire.

News and Communications Staff
