First-Year Advising Resources
Support for Your Academic Journey
We're excited to welcome you to campus soon for new student orientation at the University of Dayton! We understand that you're probably excited and maybe a little nervous about taking college courses and selecting the right courses for your major.
We hosted three virtual advising sessions in April and May to help you prepare to register for your first-semester courses. If you weren't able to attend or want a refresher on the information shared, you're in the right place.
Explore this page to watch recordings of the information shared during the virtual sessions, review frequently asked questions and find advising contact information for your academic area.
A Holistic Approach
Academic Advising at UD
Learn more about the University of Dayton's holistic approach to academic advising and important information to help you prepare to select your first semester courses at new student orientation.
If you're thinking about changing your major before starting at UD, please reach out to the Office of Recruitment and Admission at admission@udayton.edu as soon as possible to discuss your options. We encourage you to make this decision before new student orientation for a smooth course registration process.
If you decide to change your major after you start classes at UD, you'll want to reach out to your holistic academic advisor.
You can upload unofficial transcripts and/or AP and IB exams and earned or expected scores in the Pre-Advising Form on your Porches to-do list. This will inform your advisor that you are expecting credit. You can also utilize our online Transfer Credit Evaluation to identify a program of study at UD and see an audit of the credit you are expecting and how it applies to the selected program of study.

If you have earned college credits from another institution, you must have an official transcript of grades sent from the issuing college or university to transcripts@udayton.edu, or select the University of Dayton from the dropdown menu on the institution's site for electronic sending.
If requesting transcripts by mail, please have them sent to:

The deadline to submit transcripts and test scores for credit at UD is August 1.
During your first year, you will be able to talk with your holistic advisor about your interests and learn more about requirements for a double major and/or minor along with the process of declaring a double major or minor.
Incoming students should review accommodation information and complete the Accommodations Request Process. Please reach out to the Office of Learning Resources with any questions.
UD has many different types of education abroad and away programs based on geographic location, program duration, and focus area. Students interested in this opportunity can explore options available through the Global and Intercultural Affairs (GIA) Center.
We'll also have a session about experiential learning (including study abroad) in the afternoon at new student orientation.
We encourage you to discuss your interests with your holistic academic advisor after classes begin to learn more about opportunities that align with your major.
