Religious Studies

Can the Marian Library Support Instruction in Religious Studies?

Yes!

For example...

The Marian Library’s special collections are naturally well-suited to class projects and individual research assignments, as well as long-term projects such as theses or dissertations.
Of course, Mariology is the primary area in which the Marian Library can inform class discussion. In addition, the holdings in general theology are strong. The collection can also help illustrate Catholic intellectual history, popular devotions, and religious art.

The Marian Library has numerous writings of theologians in their original languages; of course this includes the Fathers of the Church and St. Thomas Aquinas, but also St. Teresa of Avila, St. Ignatius of Loyola, Karl Rahner, and others.

The Father René Laurentin collection is now open for researchers and includes coverage of wide variety of Catholic and Marian topics: Marian apparitions, Mary and the Church, Mary in scripture, Mary in the liturgy, ecumenism, charismatic renewal, and Mary in the mystical tradition.

Other archival collections include coverage of Marian activity among the Franciscans; records from the Ecumenical Society of the Blessed Virgin Mary; and multiple collections of holy cards, postcards, and ephemera.
