The Marian Library offers variety of services to accomodate the individual needs of our patrons and to fulfull our mission of fostering Marian scholarship and sound Marian devotion.  

Research Assistance

Librarians are available to assist with research. While drop-ins are always welcome, appointments may be made in advance by calling 937-229-4214, emailing or by using the provided link. You may also submit a question to our librarians online.

Borrowing Services

The Marian Library makes available a large selection of our materials such as books, video and audio recordings for circulation. You can search our catalog online and learn about our borrowing policies.

Instruction and Academic Support

Marian Library faculty often partner with other University of Dayton Libraries faculty to offer special courses. We are also available to assist instructors of any discipline in teaching their students by using our collections.


Installations of Marian art from visiting artists as well as from our robust collections are always present in the gallery. The gallery is open Monday-Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Before visiting, refer to our calendar for any special openings or closings.

Guided Tours

Visitors are welcome to drop in during our hours of operation (Monday-Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.) to explore our facilities and exhibits. Guided tours, however, are available by appointment only. Learn more.

Useful Spaces

The Marian Library has many purposes from housing rare books to exhibiting art to providing study space. Several areas in the library are used to provide a service to our patrons, as well as to our staff and materials.

Seventh Floor of Roesch Library (Main Area)
  • Reading room with meeting space, study space and computer access
  • Art gallery to house rotating exhibits 
  • Crèche Museum displaying Nativity sets from our crèche collection all year long
Third Floor or Roesch Library, Suite 310
  • Special Collections and Brother William Fackovec, S.M. Rare Book Room include secure, climate-controlled areas for many of our special collections
Fourth Floor of Fitz Hall
  • Crèche Workshop provides work space for the design of unique settings and storage of the over 3,600 Nativity sets in our collection. This space is also home to our Marian art collection.
